Teen Suicide Prevention
Melaney was inspired to learn more about adolescent suicide while in graduate school as suicide became #1 cause of death for adolescent males in 1983. Melaney has been working with teen suicide prevention since 1985. Her dissertation findings on Adolescent Male Self Esteem and Suicide Ideation received honors at her presentation at the International Convention of The Association of Suicidolgy. Dr. Sreenan’s work focuses on adolescent self esteem. She believes developing a strong psychological backbone in the family fosters self discipline, self respect and self confidence. In today’s teen world Dr. Melaney has seen these qualities reduce the apathy and depression associated with suicide ideation.
